Warnings: H/C. Notes: This one makes up for hurting Jay. Contrary to belief, I do love the dude. Date: Small tears slid down Bob's face as he paced in the waiting room. Jay had been in the emergency room for going on 2 hours and 9:30pm was fast approaching. "Just calm down Bob, he's in good hands..." Serendipity sighed from her seat. "I can't." Bob ran a frustrated hand over his head and pulled off his cap, then slid it back on, "I can't relax knowing he's in there in pain!" Rufus rubbed his temples, trying to ease away the stress. "I'm sure he'll be fine." A young blonde doctor came into waiting area, "Are all three of you with..." "Is Jay okay?" Bob approached and cut off her words. The woman nodded slightly, "He's still unconscious, but he should be coming out from the anesthesia soon. Luckily it was only a graze on his shoulder...it missed all the bones so we just had to do some stitches." Bob let out a sigh of relief, "So we can see him now?" "What is your relationship to the patient?" The doctor asked simply. "I'm his..." He looked back at Serendipity and Rufus, then finished his sentence; "I'm his boyfriend." "Sorry, immediate relatives only." The doctor shrugged, turning towards the door to go back into the long hallway. "Wait." Rufus stood up, "You don't understand, Jay has NO immediate family that would even care to be here! Bob's all he has..." "Yeah..." Serendipity chimed in; "They practically raised each other!" The doctor turned back, "So he has nobody else?" "Just me." Bob lowered his eyes solemnly. The doctor sighed and gave in, "Okay, just you. If anyone asks, you're brothers..." * * * * * Bob entered the dark room and felt the tears welling up in his eyes as the nurse shut the door. After heaving a heavy sigh he approached the figure that lay propped up on the white hospital bed, the dimmed lights above his head illuminating Jay's pale face. "Jay?" Bob asked softly, not surprised when there was no response. Leaning over the edge, Bob gently ran the back of his hand down Jay's cold cheek. Then he slid out of his coat and just stood over the injured man, stroking his long blonde hair. * * * * * "I think its about time we told God..." Rufus sighed as he and the muse stepped outside. "What's this 'we' bull crap? This is *your* mess! I was just supposed to drop them off at the temple, then go back to *my* life." Serendipity replied harshly. Then, they felt themselves moving and were transported to limbo. The Metatron scowled at the bickering duo as the shouted back and forth about who's fault it was that Jay had been shot. "Will you both just shut up!!" Rufus turned to the angel, grumbling and Serendipity did the same, letting a low growl from her throat. "That's better." Metatron let a thin sigh, "Now, as we both know there has been a problem." "No shit." Serendipity grumbled. "Well, I took the liberty of telling God...and she isn't pleased." Metatron shook his head slightly, "In fact, she's pissed." "So what's she going to do, censure us?" Rufus shrugged. "Worse." Metatron conjured a trio of chairs and took a seat, urging the muse and apostle to do the same. "I assume you know when she told us about the destiny...she wasn't exactly explicit." "What do you mean, there's more?" Rufus raised an eyebrow. "The prophet's destiny? Nobody told me!" Serendipity was getting frustrated. "You," Metatron turned to the muse, "You weren't supposed to be involved at all. Now, I suppose I may as well drag you into it." "So spill it wing-boy!" Serendipity responded. "Well, it's like this..." Metatron began slowly. * * * * * Saddened, bent over the unconscious figure and unsure of what to do next, Bob began to sing in a near whisper, "You are my sunshine...my only sunshine." He looked around hesitantly, then got a little louder, "When you're not happy, my skies are gray." Bob stopped singing and hummed the next few lines because he didn't know them, then as he once again traced a fine line down Jay's jaw he finished, "Please don't take my sunshine away..." * * * * * "So it's our job to tell Jay and Bob about it?" Rufus shouted, "No way, I can't deliver that news to *anyone*. Not even Jay." Serendipity sighed, "Okay, all you have to do is tell him they have to take care of the scion...they already knew that." The muse shrugged, then continued, "I mean, Bethany isn't that big of a problem." Metatron looked to Rufus, both acknowledging that Serendipity hadn't gotten the idea. "You don't get it..." he sighed; "Bethany isn't the last scion." Serendipity's eyes grew wide, "The baby?" Rufus nodded, "They'll have to raise the child." "Oh, it gets even better..." Metatron smirked sarcastically. * * * * * Bob gasped gently and pressed a small kiss to Jay's forehead as his eyes began to flutter open. "Bob?" Jay managed to ask, coming out from under the anaesthesia sleep. Bob nodded, taking Jay's hands, "How are you feeling?" Hastily, Jay reached his right arm over to the left, feeling the bandage. "It still hurts a little." Smiling gently, Bob squeezed the hands, "It wasn't too bad...just a graze." "Fucker shot me...did you kill him?" Jay looked up hopefully. Bob shook his head negative, "I...I wanted to get you out of there." A small, almost drugged smile came over Jay's dry lips; "Did you kick some ass?" "That I did." "All right!" Jay practically beamed, "Pow! Silent Bob 2, Mother Fucking angel wannabe's 0." There was a gentle knock on the door, then Rufus poked his head in, "Can we come in?" Jay smirked, "I just woke up." "Very good." Metatron stepped in, the other two trailing close behind, "I had hoped you'd recover quickly." "Shit, it's not so bad." Jay shrugged his good shoulder, "I figure I'll be outta here in a month." Serendipity laughed a high giggle, then stopped, clearing her throat slightly. "Oh, I think you'll get out a lot sooner than that." A questioning look came over Bob's face. "What she means," Metatron approached the duo, "is that we have to leave in the morning." "What's so fucking important?" Jay's attitude resurfaced as the giddiness left over from the anaesthesia passed. "We have to get you to the temple." Rufus stepped forward; "You'll be safest there." "Temple?" Bob asked slightly. Metatron took over, "In the middle of the darkest, most sin filled place there is a temple...the only place Azreal and Bartleby and Loki would never dare tread." "We're going to hell?" Jay tilted his head to the side, looking almost like a confused dog. "Worse." Metatron grimaced, "We're going to Las Vegas." ***** TBC *****
